Why isn't my timer showing?
Most missing timers come down to one of a handful of causes, and each takes a minute to check. Work down the list until you find yours.
Start with Preview
On your dashboard, hover over the campaign and click Preview, then choose the page. Preview shows your timers as a visitor would see them, without needing a campaign link.
- The timer shows in Preview: your setup is working. Skip to You opened the page directly.
- It doesn't show in Preview either: start with The script isn't on the page.
On your page
You opened the page directly
For an evergreen campaign, each person's deadline is linked to them by your campaign link. If you type the page address into your browser or click a normal link, DeadlineFox doesn't know who you are, so instead of a timer you see the expired page, or you're sent to your Public page.
Fix: open the page through your campaign link, the way your subscribers will. You'll find it on the campaign's Links page. Fixed date campaigns don't have this step: everyone sees the timer.
The script isn't on the page
Without the DeadlineFox script, the page loads normally with no timer. On your dashboard, hover over the campaign and click Links. DeadlineFox checks each page for the script and shows which ones are missing it.
If a page you've already set up shows as missing, the usual causes are:
- The page wasn't published or updated after you added the script.
- Your site or CDN is still showing an older copy of the page. Clear its cache.
- The script was added through Google Tag Manager. Add it directly to the page's
<head>instead.
The page isn't part of the campaign
Timers only appear on pages listed in the campaign. Open the campaign, go to the Pages tab, and check the page is under Deadline offer pages. The path has to match: /offer and /offer-2 are different pages. Differences in https://, www., capital letters, or anything after a ? don't matter.
The timer is off, or set to a different page
On the campaign's Timers tab:
- Check the timer you expect is turned on.
- For the floating timer, click Display rules and check this page is selected. If it's set to show on page scroll, it only appears once you scroll down the page.
- For an inline timer, check its code is pasted on the page, in the spot where you want the timer.
You closed the floating timer
If you clicked the timer's close button, it stays hidden until the page is reloaded, or for 30 minutes, depending on the campaign's display rules. Reload the page, or wait out the 30 minutes.
Your deadline has already passed
Once your own deadline is over, you see the expired page or are redirected, instead of a timer. That's the campaign working as it should. See testing again from the start to get a fresh deadline.
The campaign is archived
Archived campaigns stop showing timers on your pages. Archiving can't be undone, so if you need the offer running again, create a new campaign with the same pages.
Your account reached its monthly visitor limit
Shortly after your account passes its monthly visitor limit (there's a 5% grace allowance), timers pause on all your pages and the pages load normally. You'll have had an email at 80% of your limit and again at 100%, telling you exactly when they'd pause. Timers start again when the limit resets on the 1st of the month, or when you upgrade. Your usage is under Account & Billing.
In your email
Images are turned off in the email app
Email timers are images, so they don't appear if the email app blocks images. Click "show images" or "load images" in the email to check.
The code was pasted as text
If you see the timer's code in your email instead of a countdown, it was pasted into a normal text block. Paste it into your email editor's HTML or code block, or into the HTML view of the email.
Everyone seeing the same deadline? That's a different problem, usually a merge tag that isn't being filled in. See The wrong deadline is showing.
Still stuck?
Contact support with the campaign name and the address of the page, and a screenshot if you can, and we'll take a look.
